Can babies have lime juice?

    Lemon or lime is a common citrous fruit rich in vitamin C and potassium.

    Yes, it is safe and beneficial for health as it helps to strengthen the immune system as well as enhance the taste of foods, but it depends upon the baby’s age and the amount of juice being offered. 

    If your baby is below 6 months or during the period of 6 months it is not recommended to have lime juice as it can contribute to tooth decay and diarrhea. 

    After 6 months, solid foods can be introduced to their diet, and juice can be given in very limited quantities and diluted with water. 

    However, it’s always best to consult with a pediatrician before introducing any new foods or drinks to a baby’s diet, including lime juice.

    When can a baby eat lime juice?

    According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), babies can start solid foods around 6 months and lime as well. 

    But some have different views regarding it like waiting until one year so their digestive system is more mature and avoid allergies. 

    The best thing you can do is look after your baby closely to monitor any reaction caused by lime so that you can either stop or continue with it.

    How to introduce lemon?

    How to prepare lemon?

    First of all, lemons should be thoroughly washed before preparing as they are sprayed with pesticides and coated with wax.

    Peel the lemon properly

    Cut the lemon into small sizes so that can eat it.

    Be sure to keep an eye out for any seeds and remove them from citrus fruits before serving your baby.

    It can also be given by squeezing 

    6-9 months

    Can squirt lime juice into your baby’s meal as lime will enhance any dish and introduce a sour flavor or sprinkle the juice on fish, fruits, or steamed vegetables.

    9-12

    At this age, babies can enjoy the taste of lime on their own but we need to make sure seeds are removed from the offered wedge of lime.

    12-24

    Continuation of lime into dishes if they like it even serving a wedge of lime seeds revealed we can even teach toddlers how to squeeze a lemon into their foods as per their preference.

    24 month

    At this age somehow children ask demand their disliked food, so we can use lime directly or indirectly according to their opinion of their food.

    Can babies have lemon juice in food?

    AAP says babies under 12 months shouldn’t be drinking any juice at all.

    Whereas toddlers aged between 1 to 3 should limit juice to  4 ounces per day.

    But as described earlier the way of preparation of lime juice for babies can be followed according to their age.

    The best way is 1 part juice to 10 parts water.
